Detection of drilling tool breakage using wavelet analysis

Presents a simple and reliable cutting tool breakage detection system which overcomes the disadvantage of motor current and AE respectively the experiment made with Makino Fanuc 74 A20 and concludes from the measurement results that the detection rate for broken tool with a diameter of over 1 mm reaches 99%, the system can perfectly satisfy the demand of automatic machining system, and small change of signal can be extracted using characteristic of time frequency of wavelet analysis, under fusing AE signal, the system can greatly reduce the misinformation rate of tool breakage.
