2-D FIR filter design from independent "Small" generating kernels using a mean square and Tchebyshev error criterion

We present and compare two design techniques for a large class of 2-D FIR filters. They can be implemented by means of sequential convolutions with small size kernels. Design methods are based upon the minimization of either the mean square or the maximum error between the synthesized filter and a design prototype in the Fourier domain.
