Improvements of AE technique using wavelet algorithms, coherence functions and automatic data analysis

Abstract Acoustic emission technique (AET) is a useful method for the investigation of local damages in materials. One of the advantages compared to other techniques is the recording of the damage process during the entire load history without any disturbance on the specimen. To apply more sophisticated analysis procedures such as fault-plane solution or moment tensor inversion methods AET is to be used in a quantitative way for recording acoustic emission waveforms of signals with at least six sensors. Several methods to enhance the quality of such recordings or to improve the data analysis are presented.
