Channel Modeling and Estimation

The design of high performance communication systems often requires channel state information. For many applications, especially in wireless communications, such information must be obtained adaptively. In this article, a parametric model of the transmission of linearly modulated signals over a band-limited channel is presented. Also included is an overview of various parameter estimation techniques and performance bounds of estimators under different model assumptions. Keywords: channel models; channel estimation and equalization; blind and semiblind estimation; maximum-likelihood estimation; Cramer-Rao bound
