The Role of Subplate Feedback in the Development of Ocular Dominance Columns

Feedback is a ubiquitous feature of mammalian sensory systems. For example, many of the visual cortical areas have reciprocating connections [23] and the lateral geniculate nucleus (LGN) has been estimated to receive about ten times more input from cortical feedback projections than from retinal fibers [16]. Many studies and models have focused on the possible role of feedback in the developed visual system [6,7,9,10,15,21].
