An Analytical Approach to Energy-Aware Hybrid Routing for Large Scale Mobile Ad Hoc Networks

We pursue an analytical approach to energy consumption characterization of large scale mobile ad hoc networks. An energy aware hybrid routing strategy is proposed and analyzed. Referred to as Energy Aware GEo-location aided Routing (EAGER), this protocol optimally blends proactive and reactive routing strategies for energy efcienc y. Specically , EAGER partitions the network into cells and performs intra-cell proactive routing and inter-cell reactive routing. The cell structure of EAGER can be efciently utilized to reduce routing overhead and overall energy consumption. The cell size and transmission range are optimized analytically. Our analysis shows that EAGER leads to signicant performance gains in energy efcienc y over pure proactive and reactive strategies.
