Digraph Frequency Effects in Skilled Typing.

Abstract : These studies use both discontinuous and continuous typing paradigms in investigating digraph frequency effects in skilled typing. Previous studies that controlled for hand use showed no digraph frequency effects. With more rigorous controls we found very reliable digraph frequency effects, suggesting that, with experience, typists develop multi-character response units. Videotape analysis indicated at least one way such response units can potentially coordinate and facilitate performance. (Author)
