Designing nonstandard filters with differential evolution

An alternative method for nonstandard filter design has been described. This method recasts the filter design problem as a minimization problem and solves the minimization via the DE minimizer, for which public domain software has been made available previously. The advantages of this method are its simplicity as well as the capability to design unconventional filter types. A great asset of this approach is that it can be applied with minimal knowledge of digital filter design theory.
