Novel Levy Based Particle Swarm Optimization Algorithm for Electrical Power Grid

Various events such as the difficulty of constructing new transport' saxes or natural phenomena encourage managers of the power systems to operate in their limit conditions. Consequently, in some unbalanced distribution of loads, it generates overloads of some electrical lines and a reduction of the stability margin of the electrical system. FACTS (Flexible Alternative Current Transmission System) allow to control transits of potencies in an uninterrupted manner on a network. In this paper, we address the optimal placement and sizing of FACTS problem. We demonstrated that by choosing carefully the number of FACTS, their type, their location in the network and their sizing, we perform very well the security of the power grid. Moreover we proposed a new particle swarm optimization algorithm based on Levy distribution. The obtained results show that Levy PSO provides good results.
